Leather Artwork

Leather Artwork

Years ago I bought quite a bit of scrap leather pieces from ebay. I didn't know what I was going to do with them, but I knew there was a project in the future.

I started creating landscape art from the leather scraps and even acquired a few more from my friend that makes leather handbags. I noticed many of the leather pieces had great edges that looked like hills, mountains, and cliffs. Using my sewing skills and love of thrifting, I created my first piece of art.

My artwork is a mixture of leather, suede, and sometimes felt. I use a combination of machine and hand stitching to give the pieces more depth and additional texture. I'm a full texture person and when I go to the fabric store, I have to touch everything. I love how the art has a multi sensory effect where you can see and feel the different materials used to create a scene.

All my frames are thrifted from second hand stores, garage sales, flea markets, and estate sales. Frames are a work of art of their own in the sense that it takes such precision to get the corners to match up and for the wood and fabric to mix in a way to enhance the art it will house.

My creativity is always evolving and I'm very happy to see these pieces get a great reaction from the people that visit my booth or website. I love where my art is going and the potential of what is to come.
